New Delhi: Team India will take on England in the first test from July 9 hoping this time they turn the tables around and perform better than the last time when the team received a comprehensive drubbing in the hands of the English players . Lets take a look on how India performed on the British soil in their last five tours.
It was in 1990 that India toured England and it was in Manchester that the world for the first time saw a batting legend showing his signs of batting greatness. Sachin tendulkar scored his first century in test scoring a brilliant 119 not out. India had already won the One day series by a scoreline of 2-0 and were getting to face them in the longer format of the game. It was Graham Gooch's 333 and 123 which guided England to a 247 run win.
That was enough to secure the series 1-0. A batting paradise at Manchester produced a great game, India finishing on 343 for 6 chasing 408. Mohammad Azharuddin his second successive hundred. At The Oval, India made England follow on, but David Gower, playing for his place on that winter's Ashes tour, made a brilliant 157 to save the match. The scoreline was Tests: England 1 India 0 Drawn 2
