The World Test Championship was introduced in August 2019 for the first time and since then, in six years, a total of 35 captains have led their respective teams. Here are the top seven leading run-scorers as captain in WTC.
1. Joe Root of England is on top in this aspect, having led England in 32 Test matches in WTC. He scored 2835 runs at an average of 49.73 with eight centuries and 12 fifties as captain and also got out for a duck on six occasions. Root's highest score during this period was 228 as he also smacked 294 fours and five sixes.

2. Dimuth Karunaratne of Sri Lanka led his country in WTC from 2019 to 2023 before stepping down. He scored 2160 in 24 Tests as captain in 45 innings at an average of 49.09 with six centuries and 12 fifties to his credit. Notably, Karunaratne never got out for a duck as captain in WTC and smacked 251 fours to go with two sixes.

3. Kraigg Brathwaite of the West Indies stepped down as the Test captain earlier this year. He led the team in 32 Tests and in 64 innings, he scored 1994 runs at an average of 32.68 with three tons and 12 fifties. His highest score as captain was 160 runs, even as he bagged five ducks.

4. Ben Stokes of England is on the cusp of becoming the fourth batter to complete 2000 runs as captain in WTC. He has so far scored 1800 runs in 32 Tests as England captain at an average of 34.61 with two centuries and nine fifties to his name. He has got out for a duck three times and has also smashed 182 fours and 41 sixes so far.

5. Babar Azam of Pakistan led his country in 18 Tests during WTC. He scored 1725 runs in 33 innings at an average of 53.9 with four centuries and 11 fifties. He never got out for a duck as captain in WTC and went on to smack 201 fours and 13 sixes during this period.

6. Virat Kohli led India in WTC in 22 Test matches and scored 1349 runs in 37 innings at an average of 38.54 with two centuries and eight fifties to his credit. He also registered six ducks during his captaincy tenure in WTC and smashed 165 fours and five sixes.

7. Rohit Sharma took over India's captaincy in Tests in 2022 and led the team in the format in 24 matches. He scored 1254 runs in 42 innings at an average of 30.58 with four centuries and as many fifties to his name. He bagged two ducks during this period, while smacking 149 fours and 2 sixes.
