Indian bowlers to pick most Test wickets in a calendar year
Form is a huge thing not only for batters but also for the bowlers. Over the years, several players enjoyed brilliant form in Test cricket for the whole year. Even some of the Indian bowlers have picked a plethora of wickets in the entire year in Tests. Here's the list:
Kapil Dev enjoyed his best bowling years in 1979 and 1983 in the longest format during his illustrious career. He is on top of this list among Indians as he accounted for 75 Test wickets in 1983 in 25 innings (18 Tests) at an average of 23.18 and with five five-wicket hauls to his name. Four years ago, he had picked 74 wickets in 17 Tess at an average of 22.95 with five five-fers to his name.

Anil Kumble of India is in second place on this list. In 2004, he had his best year as the leg-spinner for India, picking up 74 wickets in red-ball cricket in 23 innings at an average of 24.83 with as many as six five-wicket hauls to his credit.

India's another best spinner, Ravi Ashwin features on this list as he enjoyed bowling a lot in 2016. In 12 Test matches (23 innings), Ashwin picked up 72 wickets at an impeccable average of 23.9 and picked eight five-wicket hauls as well. He also accounted 10 or more wickets in a Test match three times.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently playing in England and is enjoying his purple patch as well. He played 13 Test matches in 2024 and in 26 innings, Bumrah picked up 71 wickets at an exceptional and never-heard-before average of 14.92 with five five-wicket hauls to his name.

Harbhajan Singh is the fifth and final name on this list as he picked up a plethora of wickets in 2002, when he was in the prime of his career. In 13 Test matches (24 innings), Harbhajan accounted for 63 wickets at an average of 23.22 with five five-wicket hauls to his name.
