The 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup has witnessed a couple of 250+ scores with India and West Indies pummeling Zimbabwe in the Super 8 round of the tournament. But what is the highest total in T20 World Cup history? Here's the list:
Sri Lanka posted the highest total ever in the T20 World Cup history back in 2007, in the inaugural edition. They smashed 260 runs for the loss of six wickets against Kenya in Johannesburg to win by 172 runs. Sanath Jayasuriya was the top scorer for them, with 88 runs off 44 balls while Mahela Jayawardene also had some fun, smasing 65 runs off 27 balls.

India smashed the second highest total of the T20 World Cup history against Zimbabwe in Chennai. They posted 256 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya smashing half-centuries. All the Indian batters scored runs at a strike rate of more than 150.

West Indies had fun against the Zimbabwe bowlers at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the T20 World Cup 2026. They smacked 254 runs for the loss of six runs in 20 overs in their opening Super 8 clash. Shimron Hetmyer smashed 85 runs off just 34 balls while Rovman Powell also scored a half-century for the West Indies. They won the match easily by 101 runs.

Ireland batters enjoyed batting against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo as they posted 235 runs on the board in their 20 overs. This is the fourth highest total in T20 World Cup history. Lorcan Tucker led from the front for Ireland, scoring an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls with 10 fours and four sixes to his name. Gareth Delany also scored a half-century down the order. Ireand won the match against Oman by 96 runs.

England scored 230 runs while successfully chasing the target against South Africa during the T20 World Cup in 2016 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This is also the highest score batting second in the history of the mega event. Joe Root was the star for England as he scored 83 runs off 44 balls while Jason Roy also scored 43 runs as England got over the line with two wickets and two balls in hand.
