Frenzy, chaos as history-making Indian Olympic contingent returns from Tokyo - In Photos

India's triumphant Olympic contingent, including golden boy Neeraj Chopra, returned home to a rousing welcome on Monday. Neeraj won a historic gold in javelin throw after hurling the nordic javelin to 87.58m to become independent India's first gold medallist in track and field and second overall after Abhinav Bindra in 2008 Beijing Games. 

Bajrang Punia claimed bronze medal after defeating Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan 8-0 in the men's freestyle 65kg.

Ravi Dahiya had won an inspiring silver medal in the 57kg category. With the two medals in this discipline, Indian wrestlers have matched their best performance at the Olympic Games

Lovlina Borgohain clinched the welterweight (69kg) bronze. The 23-year-old from Assam's Golaghat district became only the third Indian boxer to finish on the Olympic podium after M C Mary Kom and Vijender Singh

Wrestler Deepak Punia came agonisingly close to winning India's third medal in the discipline, but lost to San Marino's Myles Nazem Amine in the final 10 seconds in the 86kg play-off.

India had sent a 228-strong contingent for the Games, including more than 120 athletes. This was the country's biggest ever presence at the quadrennial showpiece which took place after a delay of one year due to the pandemic.
