Mithun Chakraborty, called as ‘Mithun Da’ by his fans is a personification of affection. His charisma and warmth is unparalleled and his fans have high regards for him. The ‘Disco Dancer’ whose moves taught the entire nation to dance, has worked in a plethora of movies and is one of the established actors of the film industry. Mithun Da’s life journey intrigued many Bengali writers which is why they penned down books on him. Till date, Mithun Da has 5 books written on him in Bengali, namely, Amar Nayikara, Ananya Mithun, Mithuner Katha, Cinemay Naamte Hole and Marbo Ekhane Lash Porbe Shoshane.
CINTAA, the body which supports needy actors was founded by the benevolent Mithun Da. He had joined hands with Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt to start the Cine T.V Artistes Association in 1992. Recently, Mithun Chakraborty and Anil Kapoor launched the ‘CINTAA’ Website.
His acting talents were not restricted to Hindi movies. Mithun Da, has also appeared in Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Telugu and Punjabi movies as well. In total, he has acted in more than 350 films.
Mithun Chakraborty’s success was followed by failure, yet he never lost his foothold in the industry. From 1993 to 1998, the ‘Disco Dancer’ acted in 30 consecutive flops. Despite this he had around 12 unsigned movies, a testimony that he enjoyed a stardom few actors did. Mithun Da turned out to be Bollywood’s miracle, a term given to him by film critics.
During his struggling days, he was an assistant to star dancer Helen under the name Rana Rej. Speaking about his struggling days, Mithun Da had once said that when he danced on stage, he was not even sure whether he would get a meal. He used to wish after every performance that a reputed person from the industry saw him dance, and would give him a break.
