UN says nearly 1000 Iraqis killed in September
Baghdad: The U.N. mission in Iraq says nearly 1,000 Iraqis have been killed in violence throughout September—down from July's monthly death toll but still among the highest recently.UNAMI said on Tuesday that it recorded 979
The report says the worst-affected part was the capital, Baghdad, where 418 people were killed.
It says 2,133 people were wounded in September violence.
Iraq is going through its worst surge of violence since 2008, following a deadly crackdown by the Shiite-led government on a Sunni protest camp in northern Iraq in April.
More than 5,000 have been killed since then.
