Minneapolis: A Minnesota-based humanitarian organization is preparing to send a team of medical responders to Liberia to help fight Ebola.

The group of 11 health care workers includes four Liberian-Americans. They leave on Thursday for the West African nation hit hard by the outbreak of the deadly virus.

The American Refugee Committee is coordinating the effort. President and CEO Daniel Wordsworth says the first goal is to establish an Ebola treatment center or “mini-hospital” in far eastern Liberia, near the border with the Ivory Coast, to help prevent the disease from spreading eastward.

Nurse Doris Parker is among the first wave going. As a native Liberian, Parker says she wants not only to treat her fellow Liberians but also to help stop the virus at the source.
