    Favipiravir tablet and Remdesivir now available in Odisha market

    Keeping in view the surge of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Odisha government on Saturday allowed the sale of Favipiravir tablet and Remdesivir injectable formulation in stores for the treatment of coronavirus patients.

    Directorate of Drugs Control, Odisha in accordance with the direction of the Drugs Controlled General of India (DGCI), issued an order allowing the market sale of the medicines under the prescription of medical specialists only, an official said.

    It said the drugs will be available to the patient or patients representative following furnishing residence proof.

    AstraZeneca resumes Covid vaccine trials in UK

    Clinical trials for the AstraZeneca Oxford coronavirus vaccine, AZD1222, have resumed in the UK following confirmation by the Medicines Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) that it was safe to do so.

    On September 6, the standard review process had triggered a voluntary pause to vaccination across all global trials to allow review of safety data by independent committees and international regulators.

    The UK committee has concluded its investigations and recommended to the MHRA that trials in the UK are safe to resume, AstraZeneca said on Saturday.

    71 per cent less rains in Delhi in September so far

    The national capital has recorded 71 per cent less rainfall in September so far, according to India Meteorological Department data. The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for the city, has recorded just 20.9 mm rainfall so far against the normal of 72.6 mm this month.

    LJP calls meeting of party MPs on Sep 16

    Lok Janshankti Party president Chirag Paswan has called a meeting of all party MPs on September 16 as the party continues to deliberate whether to fight against the Janata Dal(U) in the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls.

    LJP sources said the meeting will also consider the proposal by the party's Bihar unit that it should contest 143 seats in the elections to the 243-member state assembly.

    Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow

    A meeting of the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will be held on Sunday to discuss the issues and the list of Bills to be introduced in the Monsoon Session beginning from Monday. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will preside over the meeting starting at 11 am in Parliament complex.

    All the 15 BAC members are expected to attend, including Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader PP Chaudhary, and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, BJP MP from Bihar's Paschim Champaran Sanjay Jaiswal, BJP MP from Gujarat's Surat Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Biju Janata Dal MP Pinaki Misra, BJP member Jagdambika Pal, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP SS Palanimanickam.

    Other members include Shiv Sena leader Vinayak Bhaurao Raut, YSR Congress leader Midhun Reddy, Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan), and BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Rakesh Singh and Sunil Kumar Singh.

    The Monsoon Session will continue till October 1. The government has listed 23 Bills for the session, including those pertaining to 11 ordinances.

    3 new containment zones in Shillong

    The district administration has declared three areas here as containment zones to allow health officials to detect COVID-19 cases and map all influenza like infection (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) to arrest the surge of coronavirus death cases, officials said on Saturday.

    The East Khasi Hills district administration has declared Madan Laban, Riat Laban and Keating Road of the state capital as containment zones, they said.

    Pre-paid auto-rickshaw facility set up at Shivaji Stadium metro station

    Seeking to enhance last-mile connectivity for passengers, a pre-paid auto-rickshaw hiring facility has been set up at the Shivaji Stadium metro station on the Airport Express Line which resumed services on Saturday after a gap of over five months, officials said.

    The Airport Line connects the New Delhi metro station and Dwarka Sector-21 metro station via stations of the Delhi Airport.

    "This (pre-paid auto-rickshaw hiring) is a permanent facility, set up by us in partnership with Delhi Traffic Police to enhance last-mile connectivity and to regulate vehicular traffic around the station in central Delhi," a senior DMRC official said.
