    Ministry of Railways addresses the media amid lockdown 4.0

    Ministry of Railways on Saturday addressed the media amid lockdown 4.0. Here are the pointers from the presser: 

    • Union territories were advised to check through publicity the possibilities of rumor-mongering regarding the shortage of food, essential commodities.
    • More than 2600 special trains have run till date, more than 35 Lakh migrants have availed the benefits of these trains.
    • Shramik Special Trains were started on 1st May. Free meals and drinking water being provided to all the passengers. Social distancing and hygiene protocols being followed in trains and stations.
    • 80% of the train journeys have been undertaken by the migrant labourers of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
    • Ministry of Railways has contributed immensely in the effort to domestically produce Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and sanitisers and produced 1.2 lakh Coveralls and 1.4 lakh litres sanitiser.
    • Cyclone was a natural calamity. West Bengal Chief Secy wrote to me that restoration work is underway & they'll tell us soon when they'll be able to receive the trains. As soon as they give us a clearance, we'll run the trains to West Bengal.
    • Uninterrupted freight movement operations by the Ministry of Railways have ensured delivery of 9.7 million tonnes of food grain between 1st April and 22nd May; 3255 new Parcel Special Trains have been run since 22nd March.
