    Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking. Our response and conduct thereafter should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood. We are in this together."

    He further said, "India, with the right blend of the physical and the virtual can emerge as the global nerve centre of complex modern multinational supply chains in the post COVID-19 world. Let us rise to that occasion and seize this opportunity."

    Union Health Ministry briefs media over COVID-19 situation in India

    Union Health Ministry briefed media over the COVID-19 situation in India. Here are the highlights from the presser:

    • 2231 people recovered from coronavirus in India so far. In the last 24 hours, 1,334 new COVID-19 cases found, 27 lost lives due to COVID-19. Total 15712 cases, 507 fatalities till now.
    • We have done 3,86,791 tests so far. Yesterday 37,173 tests were done, out of these 29,287 tests were done in labs of ICMR network. 7,886 tested in private sector labs.
    • No lockdown relaxation in coronavirus affected containment zones.
    • No new case reported in Mahe in Puducherry and Karnataka's Kodagu in the last 28 days.
    • There are 755 dedicated hospitals and 1389 dedicated health care centers in the country, this takes the total dedicated facilities - where severe or critical patients can be treated - to 2144.

    Maharashtra CM appeals to people to cooperate in time of crisis due to coronavirus

    Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said the state will begin limited business activities from tomorrow (April 20). Uddhav expressed relief that there are several districts in the state that have recorded zero COVID-19 cases. Uddhav addressed the people through a video and appealed to people to cooperate in the time of crisis due to coronavirus. Maharashtra is the worst-hit Indian state from the COVID-19 outbreak with 3,648 confirmed cases. Mumbai alone has 2,268 coronavirus positive cases.

    Coronavirus cases in India cross 15,000-mark; death toll at 507

    Coronavirus cases in India have crossed 15,000-mark taking confirmed cases toll to 15,712 including 507 deaths and 2,231 have recovered, according to the health ministry's figures on Sunday.     'Shut China's wet markets'

    Good morning all of you, as the world battles coronavirus outbreak, two Republican lawmakers have urged US President Donald Trump to call his counterpart Xi Jinping to immediately close wet markets in China. In a letter to Trump, Congressman Alcee Hastings and Vern Buchanan expressed grave concerns with China's lax regulation of live animal markets that have been directly connected to the spread of the deadly COVID-19 and other zoonotic diseases.

    "It has become clear that the loosely regulated and often inhumane conditions in which animals are slaughtered for human consumption in live animal markets can create ideal conditions for the spread of zoonotic diseases, such as COVID-19," PTI quoted Hastings.

    "These markets are unsanitary and inhumane and have led to the deaths of countless animals and human," Buchanan said. "They should be shut down immediately to prevent the next outbreak of a deadly virus."
