Jammu: The holy town of Katra, base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, was on Tuesday directly linked up with Mumbai and North East by railway when two trains from Bandra and Kamakhya in Assam reached here on their maiden runs.

Bandra – Katra and Kamakhya-Katra trains, carrying Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims reached Katra late on Tuesday evening.

The two trains are presently being run on  weekly basis and the service may be increased depending upon flow of pilgrims and traffic on the track, railway officials said.

Katra was linked with the rest of the country by train network on July 5 this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

Besides daily service of Shri Shakti Express from Delhi, a number of other trains and DMUs are being run on Katra route presently.
