Southwest Monsoon makes onset over Kerala: IMD

The normal onset date for Southwest Monsoon over Kerala is June 1. 

The Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Kerala on Thursday after a delay of two days, the India Meteorological Department said. The monsoon onset over Kerala marks the commencement of the four-month rainfall season in the country.

"The Southwest Monsoon has made an onset over southern parts of Kerala," IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said.

The normal onset date for Southwest Monsoon over Kerala is June 1. 

The Met department said that Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some parts of south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, south Kerala, south Tamil Nadu, remaining parts of Comorin – Maldives area & some more parts of southwest Bay of Bengal today.

Meanwhile, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places over Northeast India from June 8 to June 10.
