Patna: A case was registered against seven people in Bihar for threatening to forcibly convert a Dalit family, police said Monday.

Sitamarhi district Superintendent of Police Nawal Kishore Singh said a first information report was lodged against seven people Sunday in Pupri area on the basis of a complaint by Yasoda Devi, a resident of Rampur Khurd village.

In her complaint, Yasoda said some villagers had forcibly converted her husband Rajkishore Ram to Islam and when she and other family members protested, the villagers asked them to embrace Islam just like her husband.

Singh said Yasoda has sought security for her family after the villagers threatened to kill her and other family members if they do not convert.

"I have asked police to provide adequate security to her family," he said.

Police have launched a probe into the matter, he said, adding that the case was lodged under sections of the SC/ST Act.
