Shillong: Security in Meghalaya's Garo Hills region has been beefed up ahead the visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju tomorrow, an official said today.  “Security in and around Tura has been beefed up,” Inspector General of Police (Western Range) H Nongpluh told PTI.

Rajnath Singh and Rijiju are set to take stock of the flood situation in the flood ravished Garo Hills region particularly in the plain belts of the state.  The Home Minister will make an assessment of the damages in consultation with the state government where he will review reports of the rehabilitation operations going on in the state ravaged by floods and landslides during last week's cloudbursts.

The Ministers will land in Guwahati and take an aerial survey of the flood affected areas in the Garo Hills before landing up at Tura, the Division headquarters, to chair the review meeting.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is expected to accompany the Central Ministers during their sortie.  “Security in and around Tura has been beefed up,” Inspector General of Police (Western Range) H Nongpluh told PTI.
