Hyderabad, Dec 6 : Emphasising the importance of world class training for NSG commandos, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday  underlined the importance to have quick response time (QRT) in repulsing terror attacks.

“The NSG commandos would be sent to visit their counterparts in Russia and France to update themselves on training methods and equipment,” Chidambaram said after inaugurating the infrastructure of the Hyderabad hub of the National Security Guard here.

Stressing on quick response time to counter terrorist attacks, he informed that the minimum time for an NSG unit of Hyderabad to assemble and be airborne would be 60 minutes.

In the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the Home Ministry had announced setting up of four additional NSG regional hubs in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad with an aim to reduce response time and reach the operation area as quickly as possible.

Although all the four regional hubs are operational, the Hyderabad hub is the first among them to have a permanent infrastructure.

The hub was earlier located at new Bowenpally locality, next to Begumpet Airport. The operations were later shifted to Tirumulgherry in January last year.

The Home Minister further informed that a state-of-art training facility, exclusively for the NSG training in southern states, would soon come up at Ibrahimpatnam here.

He hoped that the other regional hubs at Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai would be inaugurated by the end of this year.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Indira Reddy, DGP Dinesh Reddy, Commissioner of Police A K Khan and other senior officials attended the function.
