New BSF vehicles to patrol marshy terrain along Punjab border

Jalandhar: The Border Security Force will soon deploy all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to patrol marshy terrain along the porous Punjab border. Such ATVs are already in use in Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. BSF Inspector General,

“We face maximum problem of border-related crime at islands of the Ravi and the Sutlej. Parts of these islands are in Pakistan. So, we need to be extra cautious there,” said Tomar.

Smuggling of heroin and fake Indian currency notes have been rising through the years, and the BSF want new vehicles to tackle smugglers.

281.051 kg of heroin has been seized this year till date, whereas it was 288.125 kg last year.

Fake currency with face value worth Rs 46.21 lakh was seized in 2012, the same has already touched Rs 52.04 lakh in the current year.

5.5 kg of poppy husk was seized in 2012,  and the BSF has seizd 246.6 kg so far this year.
