Kolkata, June 7:  The Indian Journalists Association Friday condemned the "brutal attack" on journalists in West Bengal's North 24 Parganaas distict and asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take action against the culprits and ensure security for mediapersons.

"IJA condemns the brutal attack on journalists at Barrackpore and asks the chief minister to take action against the culprits and requests her to ensure security to on duty journalists in future," IJA president S. Sabanayakan said in a statement here.

Two TV journalists were hospitalised with serious injuries Friday after they were allegedly attacked while covering a clash between two rival factions of the ruling Trinamool Congress in Barrckpore.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred when supporters of Trinamool leader Jitu Lal, who was murdered Thursday, clashed with a rival group. People carrying Trinamool flags later attacked the two journalists.
