Hyderabad: Telangana govt's decision to organize Independence Day celebrations in historical Golkonda Fort seems depleting with army strongly opposing it.

Army has claimed that the area near the fort at which the government wants to celebrate Independence Day, is owned by it. Hyderabad collector has said that revenue department owns 51 acres and Army owns 31 acres.

This has created a tussle like situation between the newly elected Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who wants to organize Independence Day Celebrations in Golkonda Fort instead of Parade Ground, and the state army.

However, in order to fulfill the wish of the CM, the state administration is trying to convince the army. But army is continuously opposing it and has seized the “18 Seedi” area of the fort and has also removed the state government's board.

With only few days left for 15 August, the situation is still not clear over the venue of Independence Day celebrations. Meanwhile, the police personnel are doing rehearsal in the fort area which remains open for public.

As Army has not relented, the collector will sit with officials of both the departments. A survey will be done on the Fort and report will be submitted to CM. Meanwhile, the government has sought permission of ASI, to conduct I-day celebrations.

Constructed in 16th Century, The Golkonda Fort is listed among the World Heritage Sites and is being care taken by Archaeological Survey of India.

Muhghal Emperor Aurangzeb could not be conquered this fort even after nine months of struggle. The Telangana government, with its move to organize Independence Day Celebrations in the Golkonda Fort, is trying to link the tremendous history of the fort with “Telangana Pride”
