Gutka worth Rs 7 lakh seized by FDA
Thane: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday seized gutka worth Rs seven lakh, while it was being illegally transported into Mumbai. The pick-up van, which was transporting the banned substance into Mumbai from Bangalore,
Driver of the vehicle, identified as Shadab Mohin Shaikh from Bangalore, was arrested, they said.
The offence was registered at Vashi police station under the Food Safety & Standards (Prohibition & Restriction on Sale) Regulations, 2011, police said.
The state government has banned the manufacturing, storage, distribution as well as sale of gutka and paan masala.
