Deepika Padukone was the only Bollywood personality to have dinner with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki in Delhi.
It transpires that the Jap PM's wife Miyuki is a great fan of Deepika, after seeing her in Om Shanti Om. Miyuki wanted to have dinner with her. So a call went from the Prime Minister's Office to attend the dinner in Delhi.
Deepika wasted no time and took a day off from the shooting of Ashutosh Gowariker's film Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se in Goa and went to Delhi.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and nearly 20 cabinet ministers were present at the dinner.
Both Yukio and Miyuki are huge Bollywood fans. They loved Deepika in her debut film, Om Shanti Om (2007).
Deepika wore a saree by Manish Malhotra for the occasion. Says Deepika, “It is a privilege and honour for me to be invited for this dinner. I am excited and nervous at the same time.”
