Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today carried out raids at the residence and office of social activist Teesta Setalvad.

Teesta is accused of illegally receiving funds from abroad for her NGO.

Teesta said she did not understand why the raids had been ordered when she had written to the CBI offering full cooperation with their inquiry. She also accused the BJP of conspiring against her.

"This is vendetta by the BJP. They are trying to humiliate us," she said.

Last week, the CBI registered a case against Teesta and her husband Javed Anand and associate Peshimam Gulam Mohammad for criminal conspiracy and illegal acceptance of foreign contributions for their company, Sabrang Communications and Publishing Pvt. Ltd. (SCPPL).

The three have been accused of diverting foreign funds to SCPPL by violating the provision of the Foreign Contribution and Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010.

A CBI official had said that the trio was booked under various sections of FCRA 2010 and Protection of Civil Rights Act.

Javed, Teesta and Mohammad are directors of SCPPL, based in Santa Cruz in Mumbai.
