As per the information provided by Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, "Central government's scientific body has warned about 3rd wave of COVID-19. We are preparing for that since last month. Several districts are seeing a decline in COVID cases while some districts are seeing an increase in cases. We are keeping a close tab on it."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visits Atal Bihari Vajpayee Covid-19 hospital set up by DRDO in Lucknow. The 500-bed hospital is based at Avadh Shilpgram. The facility will address the bed crunch at hospitals amid rising Covid-19 cases in the capital.

Separatist leader Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, who was arrested under the Public Safety Act in July last year, died at a hospital here on Wednesday. Sehrai, 77, a close confidant of hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital from the district jail in Udhampur after his health deteriorated on Tuesday evening, the officials said.

Sehrai, who replaced Geelani as chairperson of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, had tested negative for COVID-19 in a rapid antigen test. His RTPCR report is still awaited, they said.

He had COVID-19 symptoms and his oxygen levels had fallen, the officials added.

Two people have been arrested for allegedly black marketing oxygen cylinders in Jankipuram area here, police said on Wednesday. Karan Bhardwaj and Nekram were arrested on a tip-off on Tuesday evening with a four-wheeler and 115 jumbo oxygen cylinders which they illegally traded to the needy patients' family, Police Commissioner, Lucknow, D K Thakur said.

The police are interrogating the accused and trying to elicit more information from them about their gang. A campaign against black marketing of oxygen cylinders and medicines is underway, Thakur said.

Earlier, four persons were arrested in Lucknow on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in black marketing of oxygen cylinders in two separate cases, police had said.
