New Delhi: Functioning of Airport Metro Express Line has significantly improved since its takeover by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) from Delhi Airport Metro Express Limited in July last year.

Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu said that average monthly ridership of the Airport Metro Line has increased by 30.40 per cent since July 2013.

Operating loss has reduced from Rs 345.25 lakhs in July 2013 to monthly average of Rs 82.09 lakhs during April-June 2014, he said.

The Minister informed that fares of Airport Metro Express Line have been reduced by about 40 per cent for various trips with effect from July 24, 2014.

Last month, the DMRC had said that the maximum speed of trains was increased from 70 km per hour to 80 km per hour, thus reducing the travel time from New Delhi Railway Station to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport by 19 minutes. The total number of train trips also increased from 148 to 166.
