Mumbai, Jun 5 : Mumbaikars faced an acute shortage of water today due to water supply repair works undertaken by BMC.
BMC plans to repair two 1,200 mm valves and work on giving a cross-connection under a water supply tunnel project planned at Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
The 21-hour water cut began at 7 am and continue into the early hours of Thursday.
The 100% water cut will affect Parel, Dadar, Mahim, Matunga (excluding Dharavi), Kasturaba Hospital, Nair Hospital, Durga Devi Tank, M P Mill Compound, BDD Chawl (Parel), Worli BDD Chawl, Sir Pochkhanwala Road, Worli Koliwada, Worli dairy, and D Ward in Tardeo, Tulsi Wadi and Nana Chowk.
BMC has issued an advisory the day before for citizens to save water.
BMC will follow a 21-hour repair schedule to fix two valves under the water supply tunnel project at Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
The work will start around 7 am on June 5 and go on up to 4 am on June 6, reads a notice issued by BMC.
The areas most affected include Parel, Dadar, Mahim, Matunga (excluding Dharavi), Kasturaba Hospital, Nair Hospital, Durga Devi Tank, M P Mill Compound, BDD Chawl, Worli BDD Chawl, Sir Pochkhanwala Road, Worli Koliwada, Worli dairy, and D Ward in Tardeo, Tulsi Wadi and Nana Chowk.
People residing at these localities are requested to store sufficient amount of water," the notice stated.
