Rudrapur:  Sixteen samples of Nestle India's maggi noodles failed quality tests at the state drugs and food testing laboratory here, showing more than permissible levels of MSG and lead content.

After conclusion of the lab tests at Rudrapur, the report is being sent to Food Secretary Uttarakhand, Chief Medical Superintendent H K Joshi said.

The popular snack has already been banned for ninety days in the state after samples sent to Rudrapur laboratory earlier this month showed more than permissible levels of MSG (monosodium glutamate) and lead content.

The food safety regulator earlier this month ordered Nestle to withdraw Maggi after some samples were allegedly found to contain higher-than-permissible levels of lead - a premise that was rejected by the company, saying its own independent tests suggested otherwise.
