Karnataka Lok Sabha result: BJP mauls Congress, JDS; pulls off 22 seats | Highlights

Results for 25 of the 28 seats have been declared in Karnataka. While BJP has won 23, Congress and Janata Dal have won one each. BJP is leading on two of the three seats remaining, while an independent candidate might sweep the other.

 Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with absolute majority.

"This is an unexpected result for me personally. But I congratulate Modi and BJP for the absolute mandate they got from the people," tweeted Kumaraswamy in Kannada, hours after the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and its ally Congress suffered a humiliating defeat in the southern state where the saffron party won 25 of the 28 parliamentary seats.

Former PM and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda loses from Tumkur (Karnataka) by 13,339 votes. BJP's GS Basavaraj wins from the constituency.

Bhagwant Khuba secured 5,85,471 votes to win the Bidar seat in the Lok Sabha elections. INC's Eshwara Khandre stood second.

State BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa's son B Y Raghavendra (Shimoga) also won in Shimoga defeating his nearest rival Congress' Madhu Bangarappa by a huge margin of 2,33,360 votes.

Prajwal Revanna wins with 6,75,512 votes. BJP's A.Manju stood second, with 41.9% votes.

The Indian National Congress will win only one seat in Karnataka. In the 2014 general elections, Congress won 9 seats in the state.

A resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won eight and was leading in 16 of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka where the vote count has been underway for the two-phase polling held on April 18 and April 23, an official said on Thursday.

A Cabinet Ministers' meeting has been called by CM HD Kumaraswamy tomorrow at 12 pm, a JD(S) legislature party meeting has also been called at 4 pm tomorrow in Bengaluru.

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and BJP's sitting MP from Uttara Kannada constituency, Anant Kumar Hegde again wins by a margin of 4,79,649 votes.

BJP candidate from Dakshina Kannada seat Nalin Kumar Kateel wins by 2,74,621 votes.

Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh is leading with 1,26,436 votes from Mandya constituency, while CM HD Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil is trailing.

Former PM and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda is trailing from Tumkur parliamentary constituency by 12,387 votes.

BJP candidate for Bangalore South constituency thanked the voters for electing him as their representative at the lower house of the parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha election. 

In his tweet, he said that each vote to BJP is the common Indian's appreciation of PM Narendra Modi's lifetime of service to the motherland.

Election Commission has declared the results Bangalore Rural, Bijapur, Haveri and Koppal. Congress' DK Suresh wins by 2,06,870 votes from Bangalore Rural seat. BJP's Jigajinagi Ramesh, S Muniswamy and Karadi Sanganna Amarappa win by 2,58,038, 2,97,097 and 38,397 votes respectively.

While addressing the media, former chief minister and Karnataka BJP president BS Yeddyurappa has said that the people of the state have taught Congress a lesson.

Congress senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the media and said  that he accepts the result in Gulbarga. He will try to correct the mistakes and strengthen the party.

"We accept the result in Gulbarga, the verdict that people gave us, we are accepting it. We believe in democracy. We will discuss how to correct our mistakes and how to strengthen the party." Kharge said.

BJP leads on 24 seats out of 28, Congress and JD-S are leading on 1 seat each. 

The BJP appeared headed for a spectacular win in Karnataka, as trends showed it led in 24 of the 28 total Lok Sabha seats,leaving the ruling Congress-JD(S) alliance in a tizzy with worries over its stability.

Prakash Raj, who is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central, has conceded defeat but the actor has vowed to keep fighting for a "secular India".

The National Award winning actor is pitted against Rizwan Arshad of the Congress and sitting BJP MP P C Mohan.

Buoyed by the initial trends indicating a landslide victory for the BJP in Karnataka, its senior leader R Ashoka on Thursday sought the resignation of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy for his Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) facing a rout in the Lok Sabha elections with its pre-poll ally Congress.

BJP is set to make major victory in the Lok Sabha election in Karnataka as it is leading in 24 seats out of 28.

Actress-turned-politician Sumanlatha Ambareesh is leading by over 1200 votes from Mandya against Karnataka CM and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy.

BJP is leading in 14 seats, whereas JD-S is ahead in 2 and Congress is leading in 1 seat in Karnataka.

BJP candidate Tejaswi Surya is leading from Bangalore South seat. Congress candidate BK Hariprasad trailing.

Congress' senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge is trailing from Gulbarga seat. He defeated BJP’s Revunaik belamagi by over 70,000 votes in 2014. BJP had fielded Umesh Jadhav from Gulbarga 2019 Lok Sabha election.

BJP is lead in Bellary seat. BJP candidate Devendrappa is fighting against Congress' US Ugrappa.

The former prime minister and JDS' HD Deve Gowda trailing from Tumkur.

BJP's Gaddigoudar Parvatagouda Chandanagouda is leading from the Bagalkot constituency. He is contesting against Congress' Veena Kashappanavar.

HD Kumaraswamy's son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy is leading in Mandya. He is fighting against Congress's Sumalatha, the wife of late Ambareesh.

According to sources, BJP is leading in Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency. 

The counting of votes for Lok Sabha election 2019 begins at counting centre in Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru

Congress candidate from Bangalore Central Rizwan Arshad accused that MLA and Congress' Candidate from Shivaji Nagar, Roshan Baig has supported BJP.

Mandya Candidate and son of CM H D Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil Kumaraswamy offered prayer at Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru.

Bengaluru South BJP candidate Tejasvi Surya has said that the BJP will do exceptionally well in Karnataka. The 28-year-old lawyer said that he is confident of his victory and hopes that he will be able to contribute to legislation and policy-making in the country. Tejasvi Surya was talking to reporters after offering morning prayers at his residence. 

Election counting for 2019 Lok Sabha will begin at 8 am amid tight security arrangements.
