Movie Review: Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns, Soha, Irrfan excel

New Delhi, March 7: Ratings- ***Cast- Jimmy Shergill, Irrfan Khan, Mahie Gill, Soha Ali Khan Director- Tigmanshu Dhulia Music- Sandeep Chowta Tigmanshu Dhulia is one of the renowned film makers who are so well verse with the realities of outer and inner worlds that it's very easy for such persons to shape beautifully through their flicks. Saheb, Biwi and Gangster was a masterpiece from Dhulia and so what was expected from him in its sequel was sheer decorum of the franchisee. So, is he successful? Let's find it out.The drama begins from where it was left. The two characters Aditya Pratap Singh- Saheb (Jimmi Shergill) and Madhvi-Biwi (Mahie Gill) are replicated. Adi is paralysed by legs but still is an arrogant king while Madhvi is again an unabashed seductress. Inderjeet Singh (Irrfan Khan) is the gangster in the sequel and Ranjana (Soha Ali Khan) playing his love-interest are the new additions. Inder has an age-old rivalry with Saheb as his ancestors were destroyed by Saheb's family from the roots and so he will do the same. Madhvi is still in search of love and lust and so she finds that space in Irrfan's arms and many others. Saheb falls in love with Ranjana at first sight but she loves Irrfan. The majestic ruler played by Raj Babbar wants Saheb to be killed as he forcefully wants to marry her daughter Ranjana and so he invites Inderjeet, who finds the other reason to kill Saheb. And there begins the game of dirty politics, sex and relationship.SBGR, the royal story is unfolded with lots of twists and turns. Tigmanshu provides us numerous hilarious moments alongwith the solemnity. There is one scene where a politician is caught watching porn in his office, which gives you immense laughter. Dhulia also portrays the dirty politics manipulatively, like the majestic ruler Raj Babbar, uses his own daughter to win over political power, is incredibly eye-catching. TV host Parvesh Rana as Inderjeet's brother, who uses his position in the police to influence his brother's success, is equally remarkable. But there are many occasions where you get distracted badly. The fast paced first half doesn't give any space or time to develop a sense of emotion. Few unnecessary scenes disturb the flow of the drama which is well established. Like one scene where Madhvi invites a journalist to portray the achievements and bravery their Rajas displayed. It might be one way to express the power of the royal community as the Rajas might be doing so but that is uninvited for the moment. In the second half the flick balances in many ways, especially when Saheb stands on his feet to dominate his sinking dynasty. But again the screenplay weakens up a bit. The climax also seems partially broken. I won't reveal much as it would bitter your taste. But yes like SBG, the end teases you, so better be ready for the third instalment.The dialogues and the poetries are well written and when delivered looks good. But many a times the haunting background score kills the feel already aroused by those lines. The music sometimes sounds too dragging and it lends unnecessary weightage to the scenes and dialogues. Above all its Tigmanshu's sheer excellences over crafting of characters like the first part of SBG and Paan Sing Tomar.Jimmy is as arrogant as he was in the first instalment. He never turns down and even while he is seated on wheelchairs dons everyone. He proudly says ‘I am a king, I can an afford extra wife', on being told that he already has one. His screen presence is brilliant and he never let you move your eyes away from him.The new gangster Irrfan Khan is excellent in his performance. He never allows you to recall the highly admired Randeep Hooda from SBG. His anguish, humor, pride are well put forth with his performance. Though the change in his character is still unabsorbing as he is shown so engrossed in his motive to kill Saheb and demolish his dynasty but loses easily against true love.Mahie Gill as a drunk seductive wife plays well. Her clever dealing with people, using her sensuality in driving any man is great. Though, her dialogue delivery seems broken many a times.It would be a special flick for Soha Ali Khan, as she surprisingly delivers her best performance so far. As a sophisticated lady trapped between Saheb and Gangster, she does well.I'll go with 3 stars for Tigmanshu Dhulia's Returns. It's not his best work but deserves a watch for a good cinematic display of politics, revenge and lust through delightful performances.
