Composer duo Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya said that music keeps a film alive irrespective of whether it turns out to be a hit or a flop. The composers have done films like Faltu, Any Body Can Dance, Go Goa Gone, Badlapur, Shuddh Desi Romance, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, A Flying Jatt, Meri Pyaari Bindu among others. And while some songs were chart busters, some failed to click with music lovers.

Talking about hits and misses, the duo told PTI, "The music score is always independent of a film's fate. Music is something that keeps a film in momentum. Sometimes when films don't fare well at the box office, it is the music that keeps them alive. A single film can't decide the fate of our music."

Their next project, "A Gentleman", helmed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, releases today and they said that the music has been given a very 'contemporary' feel to the film.

"The music had to be extremely urban and contemporary, since a major part of the film is set in Miami. That being said, we had to retain a homegrown element in the melodies and lyrics," they said.

The film's lead Sidharth Malhotra, who is a great fan of hip-hop music, turned rapper for song "Bandook meri laila".

"It was Sachin's idea to have Sidharth rap. We felt that he has a good baritone texture and could pull it off. Also, he is an avid hip hop and R&B music buff, so he anyway understands that genre," said Jigar.

The music of "A Gentleman" has fetched mixed response from the audience, but Sachin and Jigar are happy.

"'Disco disco', 'Baat ban jaaye' and 'Bandook meri maila' have caught on big with the audience. The whole challenge was to present a new brand of the 'Sachin-Jigar' sound and we got to experiment, so we are most content. We take critical acclaim in our stride," they said.
