Priyanka Chopra to receive a doctorate degree at Bareilly University

After SRK, PeeCee to get a doctorate degree from Bareilly International University.

Shah Rukh Khan had received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2015. Now, Priyanka Chopra will be bestowed a doctorate degree by Bareilly International University. The desi girl is flying to her hometown, Bareilly, this weekend to accept the honorary doctorate degree.

She will be felicitated with the degree on December 24 by the University Chancellor Dr Keshav Kumar Agrawal in the presence of Dr Harsh Vardhan, Ministry of Science & Technology (India), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences and Shri Rajesh Agarwal, Finance Minister Government of UP. Apart from speaking of her achievements and career landmarks, the Chancellor will also present the superstar with a memento as she revisits her hometown after almost 5 years.

The first truly global superstar from India is being awarded in view of her career achievements and the philanthropic work she has done in her role as UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador. At the event, Chopra will be accompanied by her mother Madhu and brother Siddharth. 

PeeCee’s mother, Madhu Chopra said, “It gives me immense joy and satisfaction, that Priyanka’s work for various social causes is being appreciated and felicitated. “She justifiably deserves it. May god bless her and give her the strength to do good for those who are less fortunate,” she added.

The former Miss World owns an NGO, Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education, which works for the education of girls across the world. Chopra is also UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador and has worked towards helping children across the world acquire equal education. Earlier this year, Priyanka was awarded the Global Indian Icon Award at the Vogue Women of the Year awards. She also won the Padmashri in the year 2016.

On the work front, Priyanka has finalised a few Bollywood scripts. She recently shot the first of episode of the upcoming show, India's Next Superstars which is a combined project of Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty.
