With his next movie superstar Akshay Kumar aims to bring to notice of people an important issue of cleanliness. Titled, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ the movie draws inspiration from the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan drive started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The 48-year old actor reportedly met PM Modi in Vishakapatnam at the International Fleet Review on February 6 this year. Akshay was invited to the event to attend a naval exercise and he had a long conversation with the PM on cleanliness. It was then that the idea struck him that he should make a feature movie on this topic.
“Kumar got impressed and started working on this after the meeting with the PM in an effort to contribute to the social cause. We learn he will start shooting for the film in November,”
an insider close to this development told a leading daily. It was also pointed out that PM Modi told Akshay about the steps taken by the government to make the drive a success.

‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ will be a satirical take on the issue of open defecation in the country. It is expected that Kumar and the government will soon indulge in conversations for the former to understand more about the Swacch Bharat project.
While a feature movie on this issue would be a first, the association of stars with the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan is not. Recently, actress Kangana Ranaut along with a plethora of actors featured in a video having voice over by megastar Amitabh Bachchan which highlighted the importance of cleanliness.
It would be nice to see how Akshay’s creative spark breathes life into this topic.
It was earlier reported that the movie will be directed by Neeraj Pandey, with whom Akshay has worked in ‘Baby’. Neeraj refuted these rumours by saying,
“That film (Toilet) is not being directed by me. It is a script written by my team members - Siddharth and Garima. I just mentored them. The project is going on floors by the end of this year, and it's going to be directed by my editor.”
Media reports have it that ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ will hit silver screens before Akshay’s other movie ‘Crack’. ‘Crack’ is helmed by Neeraj Pandey and it is expected that the it will be wrapped up by April 2017 end.
