I appealed to voters to break Narendra's record and they broke all the records, said PM Modi.

The success of BJP manifested people's anger against the dynast politics, said PM Modi.

We lost Himachal by just 1 per cent vote share margin, which means BJP workers really worked hard, said PM Modi.

Gujarat election results 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers in Delhi after BJP's historic win in his home state.

Bharatiya Janata Party's C K Raulji defeated his Congress rival Rashmitaben Chauhan by 35,198 votes in Godhra assembly seat of Gujarat. Raulji bagged 96,223 votes, while Chauhan got 61,025 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's Rajeshbhai Patel got 11,827 votes, while the AIMIM's Hasan Kachaba secured 9,508 votes in the communally-sensitive Assembly seat of Godhra, where the burning of a train had triggered one of India’s worst post-Partition riots 20 years back.

The Congress party won the Muslim and Dalit-dominated Danilimda assembly segment in Ahmedabad city, despite the AAP and AIMIM cutting into its votes and the BJP putting up a strong fight. Sitting Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar won by defeating his nearest rival, BJP’s Nareshbhai Vyas, by a margin of 13,525 votes. Parmar polled 68,906 votes compared to 55381 votes cast in favour of Vyas. AAP candidate Soma Kapadia polled 22,934 votes, while AIMIM’s Kaushika Parmar garnered 2,464 votes, according to provisional data of the Election Commission. Danilimda emerged as a high-profile seat as the BJP and the Congress locked themselves into a prestige fight, with the saffron camp pulling out all stops to wrest the seat that it has never won since it came into existence in 2012 following delimitation.

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kanaiyalal Kishori on Thursday won from Gujarat's Dahod Assembly seat, reserved for the Scheduled Tribe candidates, by defeating his nearest Congress rival Harshad Ninama. The Congress lost its stronghold to Kishori, who won the seat by a margin of 29,350 votes. He polled 72,660 votes, while Ninama got 43,310 votes, the Election Commission said. The Aam Aadmi Party nominee, Dinesh Muniya, put up an impressive show by polling 34,010 votes, while independent candidate Kishan Palas also got 10,808 votes. The Congress had won the seat for three terms in 2007, 2012 and 2017. This time it replaced its sitting MLA Vajesinh Panda by fielding Ninama.

The way Narendra Modi and other top leaders campaigned in Gujarat, selection of candidates...the results are a combination of all these factors. Independent candidate and BJP rebel Dharmendrasinh Vaghela was on Thursday leading over the party’s nominee Ashvin Patel in Vaghodia assembly constituency. Congress candidate Satyajitsinh Gaekwad was at the third spot after seven rounds, followed by six-term MLA Madhu Shrivastav. In 2017, Madhubhai, Shrivastav is called in the constituency, defeated Vaghela - known as Bapu - by a margin of 10,315 votes.

Counting of votes for a new assembly in Gujarat got underway Thursday, with early trends pointing to a sweeping victory for the ruling BJP that has not lost an election in the state since 1995. The BJP was leading in 42 seats, while Congress was ahead in six and the AAP was winning four seats, according to early trends reported by the Election Commission. Television channels, however, reported that BJP was ahead in more than 100 seats, the Congress in about 50 and the AAP was struggling to take its tally into double digits. AAP is ahead in eight seats in Gujarat with its state chief Gopal Italia is leading in Katragam. Gopal Italia is contesting against Vinod Moradiya of the BJP and Kalpesh Variya of the Congress.

Losing Gujarat badly would be a big jolt also as it risks ceding the space of principal opposition in the state to the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP. It would also impact its bargaining power vis-a-vis other Opposition parties. Also, losing Gujarat badly may add to the exodus of leaders that the party has been facing.

In early trends, BJP ahead in Kalol, Ghandhidham, Limkheda seats

Early trends show lead for BJP in Kutch. Saurashtra-Kutch which recorded a four per cent or more decline in voter turnout, 15 is currently held by the ruling BJP, while only four are with the Opposition Congress.

The Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure a smooth counting process. The entire counting process is being videotaped.

As many as 37 counting centres have been set up across Gujarat. The counting of votes began at 8am covering the 182 Gujarat assembly seats.

The Modi government is struggling with rising inflation, slowing growth and joblessness, but economic troubles are unlikely to dent BJP’s popularity in Gujarat that has been a bastion of the party for decades and where Modi was chief minister from 2001 to 2014.

While the Congress is not expected to replicate its creditable performance of the last Assembly elections in 2017, a good showing by AAP will help its leader Arvind Kejriwal cement his place as a key challenger to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in parliamentary elections due in 2024.

The counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly elections will begin at 8 am. Outside visuals from counting centre at LD Engineering College.

The Aam Aadmi Party was projected to bag anything between two and 13 seats. 

Exit polls have predicted a big majority for the BJP in Gujarat and if these projections are any indication, the saffron party is all set to retain power in the state for the seventh consecutive term. The ruling party is expected to win in the range of 117-151 seats, while the Congress was predicted to bag between 16 to 51 seats.

While the contest in Gujarat has traditionally been between the BJP and Congress, it was three-cornered this time around with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) entering the poll arena.

Counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly elections which were held in two phases on December 1 and 5 across 33 districts of the BJP-ruled state will start at 8 am at 37 counting centres covering the 182 Assembly seats.
