Naraina MCD Bypoll Result LIVE: AAP candidate Rajan Arora wins with a margin of 148 votes against BJP

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Rajan Arora has defeated the ruling BJP in the Naraina ward in the MCD bypolls, results for which were announced earlier on Wednesday. Vote counting began for the high-stakes Municipal Corporation of Delhi bypolls in 12 wards at 8 am. The contest was viewed as an important test for the ruling BJP as well as the AAP and the Congress, which were eyeing a comeback. Naraina is ward number 139 in the MCD.

The key contest was between AAP's Rajan Arora and BJP's Chandrakanta Shivani.

A total of 51 candidates, including 26 women, contested in the crucial bypolls. For the AAP and the Congress, the by-elections were seen as an opportunity to regain lost ground in the capital, while for the BJP it represented a significant contest, coming as the party’s first major election since its sweeping victory in the February Assembly polls.

Before the bypolls, the BJP held 115 seats, the AAP 99, the Indraprastha Vikas Party 15, and the Congress 8 in the 250-member house.

The bypolls were held in Greater Kailash, Shalimar Bagh B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar A, Dakshin Puri, Mundka, Vinod Nagar and Dwarka B.

Of these 12 wards, nine were previously held by the BJP and the remaining three by the AAP.

AAP candidate defeated BJP's Chandrakanta Shivani with a margin of mere 148 votes. Arora polled a total of 10,432 votes, while Shivani got 10,275 votes.

2022 MCD Election results

In the 2022 Delhi Municipal Corporation election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 134 seats with 42.05% of votes. The party received 30,84,957 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 104 seats, securing 39.09% of the vote share and receiving a total of 28,67,472 votes in the capital. 

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Umang Bajaj won the Naraina (Ward Number 139) in the 2022 MCD Election by defeating Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Vijender Garg by 3,740 votes. Later, Bajaj won the Rajinder Nagar Assembly seat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly polls by defeating the AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak by 1,231 votes. In the 2025 MCD bypoll, the main contest is between BJP's Chandrakanta Shivani, AAP's Rajan Arora, and the Congress party's Manoj Kumar.
