Rupee plunges to record low of 69.12 against US dollar

The rupee fell seven paise to touch a record low of 69.12 against US dollar as markets opened on a cautious note in the wake of no-confidece motion against the Modi government.

Rupee plunged to a record low of 69.12 against US dollar

 

The rupee fell seven paise to touch a record low of 69.12 against US dollar on Friday. On the other hand, markets opened on a cautious note ahead of the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government. 

The BSE Sensex opened at 36,377.03 up 25.80 points, while the NSE Nifty was at 10963.50 up index was 6.40 points in the opening trade. 

On Thursday, the rupee on took a hard 43-paise knock to close below the 69 level for the first time at a historic low of 69.05 against the US currency as upbeat comments on the US economy by the Federal Reserve chairman drove the greenback to one-year high levels higher against global currencies. 

This was the biggest single-day fall since May 29 and goes 

hand in hand with a stronger US dollar. 

The domestic currency suffered a major setback as forex sentiment turned wobbled once again with a resurgent dollar and a slew of local issues sparking jitters among investors.
