Just months before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday expanded his cabinet and six leaders were sworn in as ministers. The oath was administered by Governor Anandiben Patel at the Jan Bhavan in Lucknow. The six leaders who were sworn in as ministers are former UP BJP president Bhupendra Chaudhary, Samajwadi Party rebel Manoj Kumar Pandey, Krishna Paswan, Surendra Diler, Hansraj Vishwakarma and Kailash Rajput.
Additionally, Ajit Singh Pal and Somendra Tomar were also elevated as minister of state with independent charge.
However, the cabinet expansion gave Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav a chance to attack the BJP, who said the development raises a series of questions about the accommodation of turncoat leaders, "dissatisfied" legislators and alliance partners. "People are asking that there are only six vacancies in the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, while the number of leaders who switched sides from other parties is much higher. Will all of them be rewarded with ministerial positions?" he posted on X.
