Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) chief Shivpal Yadav on November19 indicated that he will forge an alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP) to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) president Shivpal Yadav on Thursday said it would be his "first priority" to have an alliance with the Samajwadi Party to defeat the BJP in the UP assembly election in 2022.
Replying to a question, Shivpal Singh Yadav said that everyone has seen the result of the SP-BSP alliance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. "We will now see the result of BJP-BSP alliance," he added.

In a visible softening of stand, Shivpal Yadav, who heads the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP), has said that he is ready to forge an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, which is slated to be held in 2022.
“We've decided to contest the 2022 elections. We've to strengthen the party so that in 2022 Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) forms a government on its own. Rumours are that there'll be merger, this should put an end to all that,” said Shivpal Yadav.
Shivpal Singh Yadav categorically said that he had no plans to merge his Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) into the Samajwadi Party.
Shivpal, who is contesting Lok Sabha polls from here, said people of Firozabad invited him and based on their interest decided to contest from the seat.
As part of the seat-sharing agreement, Apna Dal was allocated two parliamentary constituencies- Basti and Pilibhit.

Addressing a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav here earlier in the day, Mayawati asked the party cadre "to not waste their vote on his (Shivpal's) party, (which is) funded by the BJP".
