Months after quitting the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha on Saturday floated her new party named 'Telangana Rashtra Sena' or the TRS during an event in Hyderabad that was attended by hundreds of her supporters.
"Remember The Name: Telangana Rashtra Sena. We refuse to back down, come what may; It is time the people of Telangana have their say. We will not let our aspirations decay; Be reduced to ashes if you dare come in our way. Your Time is Done, Our Time is Now," Kavitha posted on X (formerly Twitter) after the launch of her party.
Party to focus on Telangana
Kavitha, who is the daughter of BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, had announced her decision to float her new party in March, pointing that its focus would be solely on Telangana. According to Kavitha, a new political party was needed in the southern state to achieve 'Sarvodaya Telangana' (progress of all).
Around 95 per cent focus of the new party will be on Telangana, Kavitha had said, while seeking the support of women. Kavitha, who represented the Nizamabad constituency in Lok Sabha, had also attacked the incumbent Congress government in the state and said that its performance was far from satisfactory.
Kavitha's suspension from BRS
Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September 2025 after she accused her cousins, T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, of tarnishing the image of KCR over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project built when the BRS was in power in Telangana. Later, Kavitha also attacked KCR, accusing him of corruption and calling the constitution of BRS a "joke".
Since then, Kavitha has been focusing on public issues of the state under the banner of her cultural organisation Telangana Jagruti. In December last year, Kavitha had said that her political party would contest the next assembly elections in Telangana, which will likely be held in 2028.
