The footballer, who had previously dated Gemma Atkinson, had been considered "smitten" with Nereida, a Majorcan-born model. However, according to Portuguese tabloid 24 horas, Ronaldo was tired of seeing lurid newspaper headlines about the model and her past. He said the break up was "a secret of the Gods", but the paper said Nereida had a strained relationship with his mum Dolores, who believed she was more interested in her son's money and fame than his heart. Nereirda and Cristiano vacationed together and looked quite cozy in Italy in June 2008. The soccer star and Spanish model called it quits just a month later.Nereida Gallardo has met Cristiano Ronaldo at a nightclub in Mallorca, back in January of 2008, by the time the Portuguese forward was still playing for Manchester United.She also dated Sergie Ramos and spent one night together after meeting at the Madrid night club Joy Eslava. As the football world waited to see if he would stay at Man United or jump ship to Real Madrid, his love conquests made headlines around the world while fuming Nereida was stuck in Majorca reading about his exploits.Before the split the s120,000-a-week striker regularly flew Nereida and two pals over to Britain for sleepovers in his s4million mansion in Cheshire, which has a swimming pool, jacuzzi and private cinema.He lavished her with expensive gifts including a designer handbag and an Armani belt.She said Ronaldo never discussed his plans to sign for Real Madrid with her in detail, but it was clear he wanted to go. She also suspected him of cheating on her during their time together. "I was faithful throughout our relationship but I'm not sure about him," she said. "I found text messages in Spanish one day on his mobile phone that made me suspicious."Ronaldo was said to be furious over claims that Nereida slept with Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos before the couple met. But in the interview on Spanish TV she insisted she was just friends with the Madrid defender. She also denied Ronaldo promised to marry her if United won the Champions League, saying: "We never spoke about marriage, ever."
