Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 37. He last played for South Africa in August 2025 against Australia in a T20I. Rassie played 18 Tests, 71 ODIs and 57 T20Is for his country during his seven-year career.

South Africa batter and former ODI captain, Rassie van der Dussen, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 37. He last played for South Africa in August 2025 in a T20I against Australia, where he scored an unbeaten 38 off 26 deliveries batting at number six.

His last ODI appearance came in the Champions Trophy against New Zealand in Lahore where he scored 69 runs in the losing cause as South Africa failed to chase down 363 runs, falling short by 50 runs. His Test career didn't last long with his final appearance in the format dating back to December 2022 against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Van der Dussen also led South Africa in one ODI in 2024 and lost it while also featuring in the two ODI World Cups in 2019 and 2023. He amassed 759 runs in 19 matches at an average of 54.21 with two centuries and five fifties.

The cricketer took to X to announce his retirement where he thanked his family, friends and Cricket South Africa, along with the fans for supporting him during his international career that spanned more than seven years.

Rassie van der Dussen - A look at his career

Rassie van der Dussen made his international debut in 2018 against Zimbabwe in a T20I and within the next three months, he also earned his ODI cap against Pakistan in January 2019. Later in the year, he made his Test debut against England at home and ended up playing only 18 matches in the format, scoring 905 runs at an average of 30.16 with six fifties to his credit.

He was predominantly the ODI player during his career and played 71 matches in the format for South Africa while amassing 2657 runs at an impeccable average of 50.13 with six centuries and 17 half-centuries. When it comes to the shortest format, Rassie van der Dussen played 57 T20Is and scored 1406 runs at an average of 33.47 and a strike rate of 128.75 and crossed the 50-run mark 10 times.

For the unversed, the 37-year-old also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rajasthan Royals but didn't have a successful career, mustering only 22 runs in three outings.
