Wellington: Opening batsman Martin Guptill will miss New Zealand's tour to Bangladesh in October because of finger and ankle injuries.
New Zealand team physiotherapist Paul Close has recommended Guptill undergo surgery to correct a right ankle injury which has been troubling him for the past year.
The 26-year-old Guptill also broke a bone in his right little finger while playing in the Caribbean Premier League last month. Close said the injury would not require surgery but Guptill would be out of action for between three and five weeks.
The New Zealand test team for the Bangladesh tour will be named on Friday.
