Mumbai, Nov 3:  Nearly 230 cricketers, of them many in under-16  age group, have been found overage in bone density tests  conducted by the BCCI for age verification of players across the country.

The results were out on Friday, but several state associations have questioned the authenticity of the results.

Till last year, state associations conducted the bone tests to keep a tab on the players' age. However, from this season, the BCCI has decided to conduct these tests.

The tests were conducted in mid-September for various age groups at BCCI-approved hospitals.

Out of the 32 probables for Mumbai's U-16 team for the Vijay Merchant Trophy that starts on December 7, eleven have been found to be overage.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) joint secretary PV Shetty said this has happened for the first time.

“Even when we conducted tests, there would be a case or two, but eleven is surprising,”.

Punjab Cricket Association secretary, MP Pandove, said:  “Yes, the BCCI had conducted tests and the results were to come. I'll confirm the number of players who have flunked the tests tomorrow.”

BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said players found to be overage will not be allowed to participate in that age group.

“The tests were conducted as per BCCI's regulations. Those who are found to be overage will be barred from playing,” Jagdale told Hindustan Times.

In Delhi, former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi has written to Jagdale recently, complaining that the state's U-14 skipper possessed two age certificates.
