Rohit Sharma in action for Mumbai Indians

IPL 2018, CSK vs MI Highlights

A clinical win for Mumbai Indians and their campaign stays alive in Indian Premier League 2018 ! They were in a desperate need of this victory to revive their fortunes. The chase was planned well by the visiting team. It was not a big total in front of them and they went cautiously up front. Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis provided a steady start and laid a strong platform and then Rohit Sharma promoted himself to number 3 to take things under control. His extraordinary knock proved to be enough as Mumbai crossed the line quite easily in the end. Chennai Super Kings were not up to the mark with the ball tonight. Their pacers went for aplenty while the spinners weren't too effective. Having said all that, what cost the home team the most was their batting in the last 10 overs. They failed to bat with the same intensity and managed only a below par total. (CRICKET STREAMING - CSK vs MI) (SCORECARD) (IPL Full Coverage)

23.38 IST:

23.36 IST:

23.34 IST: FOUR! Mumbai Indians (173/2) beat  Chennai Super Kings (169/5) by 8 wickets in Pune. Rohit 56*, Lewis 47

5 needed off the last over. Can Imran Tahir pull it off for Chennai?

23.32 IST: FOUR! FIFTY! What a shot! Genius. It's a low full toss around off, Rohit gets down on one knee and sweeps it over square leg. No fielder in the deep and it's a boundary. 17 from the over. Mumbai roaring. Mumbai Indians 165/2 in 19 overs vs Chennai Super Kings (169/5)

23.31 IST: FOUR! Well played, Rohit Sharma! Thakur takes the pace off the delivery and delivers it short and wide outside off. Sharma waits for it and just places his shot through the gap between backward point and short third man. 9 more needed. MI 161/2 in18.4 overs

23.30 IST: FOUR! Rohit knows his angles! Gets a full ball this time, shuffles across the stumps and with a good wristwork he puts it away to the long leg fence. MI 157/2 in 18.3 overs

23.29 IST: FOUR! Up and over backward point! Width on offer outside off, Rohit is quick to latch onto it and goes hard at it. Ends up slicing it over Harbhajan Singh for a boundary. MI 153/2 in 18.2 overs

23.25 IST:

23.24 IST: SIX! Into the night sky! Watson with a length delivery outside off, Hardik goes full monty and launches it over long on for a biggie. The crowd has gone silent. MI 145/2 in 17.4 overs

23.23 IST: FOUR! A misfield in the deep and a boundary for Mumbai! Good length ball around off, Rohit stays back and pummels it over covers. Tahir scoots across to his right but fails to make the stop as it goes under his hand. MI 138/2 in 17.2 overs

23.20 IST: Good length ball outside off from Bravo, Hardik punches it through extra cover and the fielder in the deep rushes across to his right to stop the ball. A couple taken, 5 runs and a wicket from the over. MI 133/2 in 17 overs

Hardik Pandya is promoted up the order.

23.16 IST: OUT! Lewis holes out! Just the kind of start Chennai needed after the break. Back of a length delivery outside off, slower in pace, Lewis goes hard at it but gets a top edge. It has gone straight up in the air and Thakur coming in from long off makes no mistake. Good pressure catch by him. MI 128/2 in 16.1 overs vs CSK (169/5)

Strategic break. 42 needed from 24 balls. This game is going down to the wire but still with wickets in hand, Mumbai have their noses in front.

23.12 IST: 5 runs from the over. MI 128/1 in 16 overs

23.08 IST: 47 needed off last five overs. You got to back the chasing team at this stage but strange things have happened in cricket. MS Dhoni brings Shardul Thakur in the attack.

23.07 IST: Once again Bravo is on the pads of his countryman, Lewis eases it wide of short fine leg and crosses. 9 runs from the over. MI 123/1 in 15 overs

23.03 IST:

23.02 IST: FOUR! Shot! Short in length and angling into the batsman, Rohit gets on top of the bounce immediately and pulls it behind square leg for a boundary. Elegance! 50-run stand comes up in quick time between the pair. MI 119/1 in 14.1 overs

22.59 IST: SIX! No half measures there! Watson serves it full and just outside off, Rohit gets forward and across to scoop it high and handsome over fine leg for a maximum. MI 113/1 in 13.4 overs

22.57 IST: SIX! Whoa! What looked like a mishit has sailed into the stand. Watson with an off-pace delivery around off, Rohit gets forward with a big stride and then the extension of his arms take over. Probably he is a shade early into the shot and that's why the bottom hand comes off the handle but still it finds the sweet spot of the bat and clears the long off field. MI 107/1 in 13.1 overs

Shane Watson comes back into the attack.

22.56 IST: FOUR! Spoils a good over with a boundary off the last delivery. Bravo serves a full toss on off, Lewis stays back and packs a punch through extra cover for a boundary. MI 101/1 in 13 overs

22.52 IST: Dwayne Bravo is introduced into the attack. 77 needed off 48 balls. This game is still in the balance, although Mumbai will feel that they are slightly ahead.

22.51 IST:

22.47 IST: SIX! All power! Lewis has absolutely hammered this short delivery out of the park. The key was he picked the length early and then showed no mercy in putting it over long on. MI 87/1 in 11 overs

22.44 IST: SIX! That's hit with tremendous power! Tahir gets this one to spin away from the batsman, Lewis moves back to make space, not sure he read the variation but still goes with the shot. Middles it well and rockets it over covers for a maximum. MI 78/1 in 10.2 overs

22.41 IST: OUT! Extremely well taken by Jadeja in the deep! A short delivery on middle, turning back in a shade, Yadav keeps himself on the back foot as he pulls it across the line. Makes fine connection but Jadeja in the deep at mid-wicket covers fairground and dives to catch the dying ball. Wonderful athleticism is shown by Sir. Chennai taste first success. Can they build on this? Mumbai Indians 69/1 in 9.5 overs vs Chennai Super Kings (169/5)

Strategic break. Good going from Mumbai. They haven't gone bonkers from the word go but have done well not to lose any wicket. Just behind the required rate and keeping wickets in the tank will help. Having said that, we might see shift in gear by one of the two batsmen. Chennai will be eyeing wickets is a given.

22.36 IST: FOUR! That's all power. Tahir bowls a high full toss outside off, Lewis attacks it with all his might and spanks it over the bowler's head for a boundary. MI 65/0 in 9 overs

22.35 IST: Four byes! Tahir continues to fire it in. This time it's way wide outside off, Lewis swings and misses and Dhoni also fails to collect. It races behind for a boundary. Bonus runs and it will relieve some pressure. MI 61/0 in 8.5 overs

22.32 IST: Brilliant fielding, Raina! A shortish ball around off, Lewis punches it powerfully through the line and Raina makes an outstanding diving stop to his left. Tidy over from Bhajji, just two from it. MI 56/0 in 8 overs

Harbhajan Singh is back on.

22.28 IST: Not in control. Lewis throws his bat at a full ball wide outside off and it flies off the outer half of the bat. Goes safely to third man and they cross for a single, 4 runs from the over. MI 54/0 in 7 overs

22.25 IST:

Shane Watson returns after the fielding restriction relaxes.

22.23 IST: SIX! This young man continues to impress! Receives a delivery on his pads with glee and swings it big over backward square leg for a maximum. MI 50/0 in 6 overs

22.18 IST: FOUR! This time he has nailed it! The length remains short from Harbhajan, it's around off and Yadav goes through with his shot. Doesn't try to hit it hard, just places his shot through covers and finds the fence.

22.15 IST:

22.11 IST: FOUR! Once again placement was the key! Shortish and wide outside off, Yadav reaches out for it and steers it through the gap at backward point. There is a fielder in the deep but he is a mere spectator.

22.08 IST: FOUR! Excellently connected this time. A pacey delivery this time, on a shorter length outside off, Yadav waits for it on his back foot and ramps it over short third man for a boundary.

22.06 IST: FOUR! Nicely timed and placed! A length ball around off, Yadav stays back and tucks it through backward square leg. The old legs of Harbhajan gives it the chase from deep mid-wicket but fails to cut it off. Suryakumar is particularly strong on his pads and that's the reason why the fielder was a bit square in the deep. Still he found the gap.

22.05 IST: FOUR! Not in much control though! Thakur bends his back to go short and serves it around middle and leg, Lewis turns inside the crease with the pull shot, fails to middle it properly but gets enough wood to send it racing away to the fine leg fence.

21.58 IST: Deepak Chahar to Suryakumar Yadav, no run. A zippy delivery, on the shorter side once again, Yadav tries to pull but is probably beaten for pace. Takes a blow on his body. Not for the first time we have seen this in this game, reminds our colleague. Yup, Shane Watson also copped a similar blow while batting. RR 7/0 in 1 over.

21.56 IST: FOUR! Slashes and slashes hard! Once again Chahar is on the shorter side and this time he offers width as well. Suryakumar latches onto it and smashes it past the diving cover-point fielder for a boundary.

21.55 IST:

21.54 IST: We are back for the chase. Mumbai do not flirt with their opening pair. Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav are out in the middle. Many Mumbai fans would like to see Rohit open the innings, they will have to wait for another game. Chennai have taken the field and given Deepak Chahar the ball.

21.51 IST:

21.45 IST:

21.37 IST: SIX! Spoils a very good over but still a good effort from Mumbai to restrict Chennai to below 170. Hardik follows Raina and lands this full on leg, Raina lofts this over mid-wicket for half a dozen. CSK 169/5 in 20 overs vs MI

Ravindra Jadeja to face the last few balls - or will he? Raina is on strike.

21.34 IST: OUT! Hardik Pandya removes Sam Billings for three. Another slower ball and it gets the better of Sam Billings. Lands this in line of the stumps, Sam lofts it towards long on and finds Cutting who takes another catch. Just three runs so far from the last over. CSK 161/5 in 19.4 overs

21.31 IST: 11 runs off Bumrah's over. One over to go. CSK 158/4 in 19 overs

21.29 IST: SIX! Raina is having a blast at the moment and as he blasts this one into the stands off Bumrah's delivery. Slower ball on middle and leg, Raina lofts this over mid on for a biggie. CSK 155/4 in 18.3 overs

21.25 IST:

21.23 IST: OUT! McClenaghan removes Dwayne Bravo for a duck. Golden duck for Dwayne Bravo this time and he won't haunt them today with the bat at least. Mumbai are pulling things back now. Back of a length ball around off, it rushes into Bravo who looks to pull this one. He gets a top edge to it and Mayank at point makes no mistake. CSK 144/4 in 17.3 overs

21.20 IST: OUT! McClenaghan removes MS Dhoni for 26. The skipper departs. A wonderful cameo comes to an end. Low full toss outside off, Dhoni reaches for it and hits it in the air towards extra cover. Evin Lewis moves to his right and takes a good catch. The umpires check for the front foot its all fine. CSK 141/3 in 17.1 overs

21.18 IST: FIFTY! Suresh Raina scores his 33rd IPL fifty and what a performance by the swashbuckler. CSK 141/2 in 16.4 overs

21.16 IST: FOUR! Off Bumrah's short delivery and down to fine-leg. Close to a fifty. CSK 137/2 in 16.2 overs

21.11 IST: SIX! A step forward and Dhoni blasts this one and goes over long-on. That shot had power as it sailed. CSK 128/2 in 15.4 overs

21.09 IST: FOUR! Bang! Markande's slow ball just got hammered and sails for a boundary. Fires this one full outside off, Dhoni gets to the ball and cuts it over backward point. Boy! He is looking good! CSK 122/2 in 15.2 overs

21.00 IST: Six runs off the over. It's become a bot slow at the moment. It seems like Dhoni and Raina are waiting for a chance to just pounce. CSK 106/2 in 14 overs

20.55 IST: 100 up for CSK. Dhoni and Raina take matters from here on. CSK 100/2 in 13 overs

20.53 IST: Brilliant over by Krunal. Concedes just 2 runs off it with a wicket as well. CSK 99/2 in 12 overs

20.52 IST: MS Dhoni comes on bat. The atmosphere around is electrifying!!

20.51 IST: OUT! Krunal Pandya removes Ambati Rayudu for 46. CSK 97/2 in 11.2 overs

20.45 IST: FOUR! McClenaghan comes into the attack and Raina sends this to fine-leg. CSK 94/1 in 10.1 overs

20.44 IST: SIX! Raina shows no mercy. A step forward and lofts it to long on. For a moment all though that would land somewhere near the boundary but Raina just lofts this over the mid-wicket region. CSK 90/1 in 9.5 overs

Brief Preview: An embattled Mumbai Indians' fight for survival in the ongoing Indian Premier League begins at Chennai Super Kings' adopted home ground in Pune, an uphill task given their opponents' form and formidable line-up. The heartbreaking one-wicket defeat in the league-opener is fresh in their minds but Mumbai Indians will have to play out of their skins to exact revenge at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. At the Wankhede in Mumbai earlier this month, CSK had defeated the defending champions by one wicket, and with a ball to spare.

MI are too keen to get back to winning ways after two straight reverses. It has been a journey of contrasts for the two teams so far. While Mumbai have managed only one win in their six matches, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led outfit has won five of their six games. The shifting of games from their original home did not affect Chennai as they won their first match in Pune. (Read Full Match Preview)
