"This is like a never before attempt. It is like a bouquet of three experiments put together. We have now seen the characteristics of all three systems with what we wanted to test through this experiment or this mission. The test vehicle, the crew escape system, the crew module everything, we have perfectly demonstrated in the first attempt... All the systems performed well... We had been at penance for the last 3 to 4 years and the D day was today... We are very happy to be able to do it on the very first attempt," said TV D1 test flight mission director S Sivakumar.

"Mission Gaganyaan TV D1 Test Flight is accomplished. Crew Escape System performed as intended. Mission Gaganyaan gets off on a successful note," ISRO said.

"I am very happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the TV-D1 Mission. The purpose of this mission was to demonstrate the crew escape system for the Gaganyaan programme," said ISRO chief S Somanath.

ISRO's Gaganyaan mission first unmanned test flight to demonstrate the performance of the crew escape system launched from Sriharikota after it was put on hold due to some technical glitch.

ISRO has informed that they have identified the technical glitch and rescheduled Gaganyaan's test flight launch at 10 AM.

"The lift-off attempt of TV-D1 could not happen today. Initially, the launch was scheduled at 8 am, but there was the postponement of the lift-off time due to the weather situation. We had a smooth ALS  (Automatic Launch Sequence), leading up to the command to lift-off the engine, but the engine ignition has not happened in the nominal course. We have to find out what went wrong with that. We will come back soon after analysing what has triggered the Automatic Launch Sequence, holding the vehicle," says ISRO chief S Somanath on Gaganyaan TV-D1 test vehicle launch," ISRO Chief said.

The TV-D1 test flight of Gaganyaan mission was put on hold just 5 seconds before it was about to lift off from Sriharikota as engine ignition did not happen in the nominal course.

Further updating about the delay in the launch, ISRO chief S Somanath said that engine ignition has not happened in the nominal course.

"We have to find out what went wrong, the vehicle is safe," ISRO chief added.

ISRO Chief S Somanath has informed that the launch of Gaganyaan mission first test flight TV-D1 has been put on hold for now.

The test flight will cover a distance of 17 km in a span of approximately 9 minutes and will return to the earth. The test flight will land in West Bengal.

The launch time for the first test flight of Gaganyaan mission has changed. It will now take place around 8:30 AM.

Gaganyaan's crew escape system is designed to protect the astronauts lives by bringing them safely down to splash on the sea.

Like a fighter pilot ejecting from a fighter plane, the crew module with the astronauts will get separated and splash down on the sea with the help of parachutes.

As per plans, India’s first human space mission or Gaganyaan is expected to happen in 2025 and testing the crew escape system is part of that.

The mission called Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) will demonstrate the crew escape system and is the first of the four such test flights planned by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said Chairman S.Somanath.

The Indian space agency is gearing up for the crucial first test flight launch for today around 8 a.m. to check the crucial crew escape system of its rocket that would carry the country’s astronauts into space sometime in 2025.
