Bollywood stars, SP, Congress support pardon for Sanjay Dutt, BJP opposes

New Delhi/Mumbai, Mar 22: More politicians and Bollywood stars have come out in support of embattled Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, who is facing three and a half years in jail. Samajwadi Party MP and ex-film star Jaya Bachchan: "I agree with everyone that he has suffered a lot , I believe that he should not be given such a big punishment, I believe he is a changed man now , He has suffered for 20 years, I'm going to personally appeal governor once I will be back to Mumbai, I don't think this is the right attitude , I would ask Governor to free him." Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav: "Ye simple 25 Arms Act ka mamala hai. Isme mahaj 6 mahine saal bhar ki saza honi chahiye. Kafi badi saza hai. High profile mamala hai, isliye jyada saza mili. Saza kam honi chahiye" (This is an ordinary case of Sec 25 Arms Act which provides for 6 months-one year imprisonment. The jail term is too long. Since it's a high-profile case, he got more punishment, which should be reduced)Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary :" I can't say what law will decide in his case , Sentiments and emotions are different , His fans, family members and friends will obviously want him to be free but law is law. " Film star Chiranjeevi: "What Supreme Court has given is the final verdict , But as a friend of Sanjay Dutt he should get the mercy , If he gets the mercy , I will be the most happiest person , Sanjay is like my friend , I wish him all the best"Law Minister Ashwani Kumar: "Indian judiciary will render justice according to law, It all depends upon the Governor, Governor has powers to pardon. He can do what he feels is right."BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar: "Review petition has been allowed to be filed by the Supreme Court , Now it is up to Sanjay Dutt whether he wants to file or not , Let's see what they have to decide"I&B minister Manish Tewari: "Justice Katju has given a suggestion, everyone takes it very seriously , But this is a very serious issue and it is very important to handle it in a sensitive matter , I don't think that, right now, on this issue, it will be good to say anything , What steps should be taken up to bring justice."Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy: “I will oppose the government if it favours Sanjay Dutt for reducing his punishment. I will move the court.”BJP leader Balbir Punj: "Supreme Court verdict has come out. It would be wrong to pardon him. He should not get pardon."Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam: “I believe that the Indian Government has some right ,He is a senior film actor but is that enough to forbid him from the punishment and there should be at least some sufficient grounds on which he should be considered.” BJP MP Ram Jethmalani: " Justice Marakandey Katju is not an authority, nor am I a judge. Everybody has his own views. This is a democracy. I believe that he has already got some relief. There is no need for Bollywood worship."
