21 new ministers join Narendra Modi cabinet, Shiv Sena boycotts swearing-in ceremony

New Delhi: In the first expansion of Narendra Modi cabinet, 21 new ministers were inducted into the union council of ministers.The new ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Pranab Mukherjee

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met new ministers joining his team over a cup of tea at his official residence, 7, RCR. He personally informed them about their induction into his Council of Ministers.

The new joinees were also given seperate letters intimating their induction into the Union Cabinet.

The Prime Minister is expanding his team today for the first time after being in office for around 160 days.

Sources said that a total of 22 new faces are expected to be inducted into the Union Cabinet that will include four Cabinet, three MoS with independent charge and 15 MoS.

The current strength of the Council of Ministers is 45 -- 23 of Cabinet rank, including the Prime Minister, and 22 Ministers of State. Of the 22 MoS, 10 hold independent charge.
