President Pranab Mukherjee today accepted the resignation of V. Shanmuganathan as Governor of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

The development comes a day after Shanmuganathan resigned following molestation charges against him and accusations of turning the governor office into Ladies club.

Earlier on Thursday, 100 members of his staff at Meghalaya Raj Bhavan demanded his removal for "seriously compromising" the dignity of the gubernatorial office and turning it into a "young ladies club".

"He (Shanmuganathan) has seriously compromised the dignity of the Raj Bhavan and made it a young ladies' club. It has become a place where young ladies come and go at will on direct orders of the Governor... Many of them have direct access to his bedroom," they alleged.

From the time he has taken over, employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture," the employees write.

The 11 point-letter stated the Governor has "appointed two public relations officers, a cook and a nurse on night duty, all of whom are women".

Allegation of molestation was recently labelled against Shanmuganathan by a job aspirant who was called with six others to the Raj Bhawan last month for interviews to fill up the post of public relations officer.

Chief minister Mukul Sangma had said earlier in the day said that he was waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the home ministry to take a call on the issue.

Meanwhile, Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit has been given additional charge of the state.

Shanmuganathan, who took over as the Governor of Meghalaya in May last year, on Thursday attended a Republic Day celebration in Arunachal Pradesh, whose additional charge he holds since November last year following the removal of Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa.
