Ravindra Jadeja vs Axar Patel - Statistical comparison after 71 ODIs
Ravindra Jadeja, the senior pro, returned to India's ODI squad for the South Africa series, replacing Axar Patel, the all-rounder with a similar skillset. It seems like selectors are giving both ample opportunities to present their case, with a place for just one of them in the side.
Ravindra Jadeja, the senior pro, returned to India's ODI squad for the three-match series against South Africa, replacing Axar Patel, the all-rounder with a similar skillset. Patel was picked for the Australia series in place of Jadeja and the reverse has happened for the home series and it's still unclear whether he has been rested or dropped.

The last few years haven't been great for Jadeja from a consistency perspective, especially in white-ball cricket. Jadeja returned 16, 2* and 9* with the bat, while taking five wickets with the ball in the Champions Trophy and will need to have better outings in the upcoming games.

Axar Patel, who recently was part of the ODI squad for the Australia tour, was preferred over Jadeja. However, it seems like he has been rested for Jadeja to present his case but in favourable conditions, compared to that of Australia, which were alien to spin and hence, Axar was able to take just three wickets in as many matches.

Axar Patel's batting returns, however, have been better than Jadeja's in recent times. Overall, Axar has 858 runs against his name in ODIs in 71 matches after playing 49 innings and has 75 wickets to his name with the ball in 66 innings, lower than Jadeja's on both counts. But the latter has age on his side. Who will prevail, given that the 2027 World Cup is in South Africa and only one will go.
