Violence again in Bangladesh: Hindu man Bajendra Biswas shot dead by coworker at garment factory

Violence again in Bangladesh: Police stated that the alleged shooter, Noman Mia, 22, another Ansar member, has been arrested.

Dhaka:

Violence struck Bangladesh’s Mymensingh again. An Hindu Ansar member, Bajendra Biswas (42), was shot dead by a co-worker with a shotgun at a garment factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. The Ansar is a paramilitary force serving as a village defense unit. Notably, Bajendra Biswas was an Ansar member deployed for factory security and he was the son of Pobitra Biswas and hailed from Kadirpur village in Sylhet Sadar.

Alleged shooter Noman Mia arrested 

Giving details, police stated that the alleged shooter, Noman Mia, 22, another Ansar member, has been arrested who is the son of Lutfur Rahman and a resident of Baluturi Bazar in Taherpur area of Sunamganj.

In general, the Ansar personnel are commonly deployed to provide security at factories, banks, elections and government installations and may be armed in sensitive locations.

Locals said around 20 Ansar personnel were on duty at the factory at the time of the incident. The incident was reported when Bajendra Biswas and Noman Mia were sitting together inside the premises when a shotgun in Noman’s possession discharged accidentally. The bullet then hit Biswas in the left thigh, causing severe injuries and heavy bleeding.

Then the factory colleagues rushed Bajendra Biswas to the Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Victim’s body has been sent for autopsy

Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station confirmed the news and said that police reached the scene promptly and arrested the accused. Apart from this, the victim’s body has been sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police further added that legal proceedings are underway and investigators are examining whether the shooting was purely accidental or if any other factors contributed to the incident. Moreover, officials have assured that the case is being investigated with utmost seriousness and have urged witnesses to cooperate with the probe.

Three Hindu men killed in Bangladesh

It is significant to note that this is the third incident of a Hindu man being killed in Bangladesh in the last 10 days. Earlier Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death in Bangladesh. This incident once sparked violence in the country.

After Dipu Chandra Das, another Hindu man Amrit Mandal was shot dead 3 days ago in Dhaka. He was accused of extortion. Hindus are being murdered and their homes being burned in Bangladesh.
