Even with rapid advancement in modern technology, we are still unable to stall the fury of cyclones. Here is a look at the top 10 worst cyclones in the world:1. 1970 Bhola cyclone The 1970 Bhola cyclone was a devastating tropical cyclone that struck East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and India's West Bengal on November 12, 1970. It was the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded, and one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern times. Up to 500,000 people lost their lives in the storm, primarily as a result of the storm surge that flooded much of the low-lying islands of the Ganges Delta. This cyclone was the sixth cyclonic storm of the 1970 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, and also the season's strongest, reaching a strength equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane. 2. Typhoon Nina 1975 Super Typhoon Nina, formed on July 30, 1975 and dissipated on August 6, was a short-lived but intense super typhoon in the Pacific Ocean. It caused catastrophic damages and cost numerous Chinese lives after causing the Banqiao Dam in Henan Province to collapse. With its strongest winds of 50 km/h, Nina took at least 26,000 lives, making it the second-deadliest Pacific typhoon in history-only after the 1881 Haiphong Typhoon in Vietnam. 3. Hurricane Kenna This Category 5 Hurricane struck the west coast of Mexico in 2002 and caused damage worth about $101 million. Hitting San Blas, Nayarit on October 25th, 2002 was the 3rd cat 5 hurricane of the hurricane season. 140 mph winds and a 16 foot surge devastated the coast line. 4. Hurricane Pauline This hurricane was responsible for bringing 16 inches of rain in Acapulco alone and left about 400 people dead and 300,000 homeless. It worked its way across Mexico's coastline causing damage more than $7.5 billion. 5. Hurricane Iniki This hurricane struck Hawaii in 1992 and reached Category 4 level. It knocked out power and 6 people died because of it. However, the damage that the hurricane wreaked helped it to make to the list of top 10 worst cyclones. It caused damage of about $1.8 billion. 6. Galveston Hurricane of 1900 Galveston in Texas experienced a hurricane when it was just 9 feet above sea level. So when the 15 feet high waves and 135 mph wind struck the city, it just wiped out nearly everything. More than 3,600 homes were destroyed and 6,000 people died. The hurricane caused damage worth more than $20 million. 7. Hurricane Ike This hurricane wreaked havoc all the way from Haiti to Galveston in Texas. It caused $24 million worth of damage in the US, $7.3 billion in Cuba, $200 million in Bahamas and $500 million in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It also killed 195 people. 8. The Fantastic Hurricane of 1780 Keeping the document as the deadliest Atlantic hurricane this storm devastated Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Lesser Antilles, Bermuda, and perhaps Florida and also other States.
