Colombo: Maldives President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim on Wednesday left for Saudi Arabia on an official visit, an official said.

Spokesperson of the President's Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, said that the president was flying to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Xinhua news agency reported.

The leaders of both nations will discuss bilateral ties as well as international issues.

King Salman had visited the Maldives in February last year before his accession to the throne.

Maldivian Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed had visited the king in January to convey his condolences on the passing away of his half-brother, the late king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
